There are going to be some important changes to the project because:
1.I have to negotiate future updates around my new work schedule.
2.I found a much better registration script to use and have to rebuild the member area around it.
3.I decided some updates were best left for part two of Phase one which is occuring later 2013 o early 2014.
Now as a brief sidebar I’m sure you recall my issues with my former host 110mb. It ended horribly and my only consolation is that I did everything I could up to complaining to the BBB which not surprisingly couldn’t find an address for them. Once they somehow manage to get the server back up I’m just going to clear my files and leave there permanently. If you haven’t read my reviews I highly encourage it.Avoid this host at all costs. It is a complete waste of time and money and any other option for hosting would be better. Here are the links to my posts on the service as well as their CEO Mark Burdon who in my opinion is a threat to more than just 110mb users.

Now that that’s out of the way I’d like to move on to business. The new opening date for the full site will be TBA but in between May 31 and June 15. I’ve reconfigured the board setup a little.I removed the lite and mixed boards and it will now be a universal log in for a fanart board, original board, sketch board, and color-in/lineart board. The mature board will require a seperate log in due to the fact it’s not general audience. There will still be an autodelete in place on the original board of 60 or 90 days (haven’t decided yet) but not on te other 3 however the universal log in may still kick you off of all of them if you don’t use the original board every so many days.I’m not completely sure how that will work out but I will try to test it.The member quotas will be adjusted to allow 300-500 people on the universal log in boards and 150-200 on the advanced, specialty and mature boards.Caps may be adjusted accordingly if there is a visible need to increase them. The reason for the quotas and autodelete is incentive to encourage people to not abandon the board and also to reduce the chance of overcrowding and spam.I’m currently playing with a points system as well that when and if implemented would also tie in with member activity.
If you haven’t checked the Update Log please do.Phase one is now in two parts.Part one will be over when the site opens in May and part two will occur late 2013 or early 2014.Phase two will be started in Mid to late 2014. You can also pre-register for boards on the Boards page.
Now slightly off topic I will be pursuing some other projects in tandem with HaevenArts in late June/early July. First I will be doing concept work on reviving the webcomic Bloodstone Manor.I will also be starting another community project.
More on Upcoming projects can be found in these posts:
The Daedalus Media Alliance (DMA) will be a community I’m starting up in 2014 with my friend Micah Maloney. He’s also the creator of Bloodstone Manor as a side note. DMA will be specifically focused on audio, video and e-publications and will also have a system of groups or “studios” so people can form groups and produce content together. It will be a little more serious in nature and much more focused than HaevenArts. It will also have an ulterior motive of getting members familiar with the professional marketplace and educate them on promoting their work.It will feature two divisions.I will be in charge of the e-publishing part and Micah will head the audio and video portion. Hopefully DMA will at least get into development mode by mid 2014 but I don’t have any specifics at the moment.
I also have some random projects coming down the pipeline in 2014.Among them are a customized clue game based on the Cluedo script from sourceforge,an attempt at using the chibipaint app as a base for a customized oekaki app,a new online storefront for my photography products, and possibly a webcomic. I am also playing around with pricing on commisions I’m hoping to get off the ground later this year for anime portraits and character design and I will be working here and there to revive my DA accounts as well. I will be working on books in probably early 2014.One will be a character creation series that focuses on more character design but with less how to draw and more how to create a well-rounded character.
I’ll still be updating the Twitter at least every other day and I will also begin another Twitter called The Creative Calendar in 2014.
I’d like to briefly touch on the forum, more specifically articles and tutorials.I will be of course adding them myself frequently or as I get the chance to over the rest of the year but I’d love to take any contributions people have to offer. You don’t have to be a forum member to provide content but it is preferred…highly preferred.you have to allow people to contact you to respond to the article either way. Please note registration for the site is not required to use the forum. If you aren’t concerned about the oekakis or downloadable resources you’re more than welcome to just use the forum. All articles and tutorials must be exclusive to the HaevenArts forum only so I can assure members the best and most unique content. Also any guest submitted content is ineligible for any incentives or featuring on other areas of the site such as the banner rotator etc.
If you would like to know more about submitting an article please e-mail me at email@example.com and I will try to get more specific guidelines up soon.Basically any creative topics such as writing, drawing, etc, software related content and of course oekaki related content. The main focus is on visual arts but all creative people are welcome to share their knowledge regardless of discipline.Visuals are welcome and expected for tutorials and videos are discouraged at this time. Also any articles etc related to business or marketing relative to artists or writers is welcome. There won’t be a cap on submissions from one source but remember to go for quality over quantity.I’d rather have one well-written article instead of three mediocre ones.
For a brief time only to fill the banner rotators on the new site I am taking skyscraper ads only.In the future advertising will be donation based but for this brief time it is free and permanent.A skyscraper ad is 600 pixels tall and 160 pixels wide.It must be that exact size.Your site should be suitable to the genre of the site so a webcomic, creative blog, etc but it cannot be mature in content, related to anything based on money like loans, etc and no schools or professional institutions. It cannot change at any time or it will go from free to donation based following the change. Also no ads that are seen as competitive or too similar to HaevenArts will be placed for obvious reasons.
I’m going to try to figure out some way to spice up the blog or at least be more diligent about updates but in the meantime I make changes to the Update Log and you can also follow on Twitter for updates and a nice daily dose of creative quotes, projects, tips, and famous works of art.If you haven’t taken a look at the Deviant Art group you can find a link to it on the side menu of the blog. Also the PHA oekaki is a little slow at the moment but I hope you’ll consider joining up and sharing your art anyways. That’s about all the updates I have for now but I can always be reached via e-mail or with the contact forms here and on the website.Draw on oekaki lovers!
