Firstly of course I hope everyone had a great and food filled Thanksgiving!
This is obviously not a project update and I’m no politician. I’m one of the American people and probably one of many dissatisfied their vote seemingly meant nothing in the recent election. I think we all have a very general understanding of what the popular vote is. It’s the people’s voices in an election essentially and in a stark contrast to the smaller popular vote clashes in the past where there a small margin between who had more votes or a handful of votes were in question it is clearly evident that Donald Trump was buried in this aspect and not the president the people wanted.
As a disabled female minority it fills me with true dread that the leader of the whole United States is a rude, dishonest, and selfish racist who clearly has no respect for women, minorities or the disabled. Complaining at this point of the game is questionable obviously because it seems set in stone that this moron who can’t even pick a decent toupee or speak like an adult is the new face of America.
Just think about it for a minute folks. Would you have Donald Trump represent you and everyone in America in another country? The same level of disgust you get from his election sniping is how the whole world will see America now. Foreign Diplomats will have to meet him. People who want to destroy America will have to somehow like him enough to not do so. Honestly, I think getting a drive-thru person at McDonalds to like him would be a feat beyond his skills.
Barring him being just an awful person he is clearly unfit to be a president. He has no political background and what seems to be a very selectively dissected understanding of the law and the constitution. He isn’t willing to even give up being Donald Trump as he was to be a true president. He is against being accessible or visible to the American people in any capacity and is making drastic means to be able to keep his assets and justify them as not being a conflict of interest. Even a person with little to no background in law could see the obvious conflict of him running his businesses and still being able to be a half decent president. The most disturbing part I see in this respect is that he is trying to worm his family in to have high security access that could easily be translated to more money in his pocket as he wants them to run his businesses as well. This is a very clear conflict of interest and one more dishonest way of lining his pockets which seems to be his primary concern. It is also illegal. Do we really need to think too hard about if the president should be following the laws?
He has a clear and blatant disregard for the American people or really anyone not him. He has also proven to be a poor receiver of criticism, not even being able to handle the traditional roasting every candidate has basically gotten from SNL. If he can’t handle impressions of himself it makes me cringe to see what he’d start a war over.
The true question to ask yourself as an American is where you stand right now. We are facing a strange and scary time where the people have to demand to be heard and fight to have at the very least a more qualified person in the white house.
As adults we face situations often with politics where we are choosing “The Lesser Evil”. This isn’t an awesome way to look at it but it’s commonly how we do see it. But in retrospect who is the lesser evil here? There are a lot of people who voted for Donald Trump because they “didn’t like” Hillary but think about it from a reasoning standpoint. Do you really “like” Donald Trump?
You also have to ask what qualifies a person to be president in this case. Looking at it from a standpoint of who is qualified for the job puts a very big spin on the perspective here. To me a president should be educated, professional, have clear views and opinions and have political experience. Which candidate hit those bullets in your opinion?
Yes, Hillary had a few iffy points but she’s not sexist, racist, short-fused or inexperienced. She’s had a mix of wins and losses in political matters and has very clear views of America and her beliefs. She shows that she cares for people and the middle class. What really stands out is her outreach to families and children. America has lost sight of the fact that beyond money America is only as strong as it’s families and the children that will grow up to inherit it.
She’s a well educated woman and aside from a few ugly moments where she let Donald Trump get her goat she was composed, charming, honest and professional throughout the campaigning period. Consider just the tally of how many times Trump walked out with his foot in his mouth while people were moving to speak to her.
But a more important point might even be the issue of trust. Can you trust a president who skipped on taxes while you scrounged by to pay yours or a man who wants to bring jobs to America but has historically outsourced millions of jobs? But wait! He can run businesses, right? That’s pretty questionable too. He’s bankrupted multiple businesses in the past and now he’s calling shots on the biggest business you can own. It’s a little scary to be even minimally honest.
It’s hard to even form a tentative sense of trust with Donald Trump, especially when you factor in that he is aggressively racist and feels it’s okay to grab a lady if you have a fat wad of money. It’s nice to dismiss those things but they happened and essentially can’t be taken away.
He is the first presidential elect to have a mountain of lawsuits toward him, no composure, no experience and based on the debates not a lot going on upstairs and poor oratory skills. Even Dubya could read a speech and smile but Donald can’t even do that. Is this a good time to remind you he’ll be addressing diplomats and the whole world? Sure it is. Debating and speaking publically are skills. They are skill he doesn’t have and they make up a huge chunk of being president.
So when you think about who the lesser evil is it the slightly disagreeable female or the tax evading racist that thinks it’s totally cool to molest women? It’s impossible to truly like a politician and there will always be points of contention but that’s when you have to do the heavy weighing and sometimes even look beyond your party.
It’s also a key time to realize your voice should matter and consider which person will most likely get you to an America you want to live in.
But what can we do now? It seems like the time to speak up is over but it’s far from it. The electoral college votes on December 19th and even though it’s a long shot it’s the last shot we have to have someone more qualified than Donald Trump in office. If the popular votes are any indication this is not a matter to take sitting down and pouting. We need to keep making our voices heard!
Over 4.5 million people have already signed the petition to plead with the Electoral college to vote in good conscience. If you feel your vote for the right president was ignored you need to sign this petition. It is a slim to none chance there will be a sway but even that slim chance is worth standing up for.
You can check out the petition at https://www.change.org/p/electoral-college-electors-electoral-college-make-hillary-clinton-president-on-december-19 !
Also, as part of the petition money is being raised to entice Electors to vote on good conscience and not in fear of fines for not staying in party. You can check that out at https://www.gofundme.com/electoral-college-petition .
The man behind this inspiring petition is Daniel Brezenoff. He’s created an amazing movement and one of the largest campaigns on change.org to date. Your voice counts more than ever right now so don’t be afraid to speak up and sign. Share the petition so it can reach the new goal of 6 million and know that even if it doesn’t you’ve raised your voice in an effort to put the people of America back in the government.
This coming Monday a nationwide grassroots effort to support this petition is going to be launched.
Please visit http://electoralcollegepetition.com/take-action/ to see the ways that you can help out with the efforts! I’ll be doing the social media option and showing my support online to do my part.
I’ll end simply with some links to some other amazing and enlightening articles written by Daniel Brezenoff regarding the recent election and electoral college but I hope you’ll be inspired to raise your voice about who should be in the white house!
